The award-winning local theatre group Stage Left Theatre Troupe Goldfields WA Inc. is staging the RSC version of “The Wizard of Oz” at the Goldfields Arts Centre in September 2014.

We want YOU on board – in whatever capacity suits best – to be part of the joy, fun, magic and creativity of local theatre. Let’s go!

Key dates: (All subject to change)

• March to May 2014:
It’s all about building excitement, recruiting the production team, putting a musical team together, sourcing costumes and props, fund raising, design team commences work, paying licensing fees and deposits for venue hire etc.
• Saturday May 3rd 2014:
1pm – 2.30pm – Auditions for children
Roles: winged monkeys, munchkins, Nikko, winkie leader & palace guards and chorus
3pm-5pm – Auditions for the role of Dorothy and adult roles
• Saturday May 17th: Public announcement of cast and launch of Heart of Gold arts festival
• Sunday May 18th – Sunday June 29th: Singing rehearsals
• Monday June 30th – Sunday July 13th: Choreography/Character work/Line learning techniques
• Monday July 14th – Sunday August 24th – Six solid weeks of blocking rehearsals and scene breakdowns. In this period the musical director will also arrive in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and at a set time, musical rehearsals will commence as well as “solo” work with lead actors.
• Monday August 25th – Thursday September 4th – Rehearsals with band and introducing costumes and props
• Friday September 5th – rehearsal under working lights on stage at the Goldfields Arts Centre
• Saturday September 6th – Bump in to GAC
• Sunday September 7th – tech rehearsal
• Monday September 8th and Tuesday September 9th – Full dress rehearsal with hair, costume, make up
• Thursday September 11th – Opening night
• Friday September 12th – Performance
• Saturday September 13th – Matinee and then closing show
• Sunday September 14th – Bump out

• If you know someone who isn’t here tonight but may be interested in any of the above roles (onstage or backstage), tell them about the information discussed and tell them to contact us
• Get involved now – help out on the upcoming shows – “Sleuth” and “’Allo ‘Allo” so that you get a feel for the many aspects of community theatre and a better understanding of what is involved. Audition for a role, or offer your voluntary help in the crew or FOH teams and find out what it’s all about.
• Kids – join SLAY – so you are equipped with acting skills and a bit of inside knowledge, including audition tips!

SLAY workshops are sessions of acting and skills development for children aged 8-17. They are held on Saturday mornings at the Barracks from 10.30am-12noon. We hold six Saturday sessions each term (we do not have SLAY on public holidays, long weekends or special event weekends where other community events are being held – eg: community fair, race round, St Barbara’s Festival etc) For dates, fees and more information about enrolling talk to Joanne Dooley or Kevin Blair tonight, or email slay@stageleft.org.au
